MLB: The Fall Classic

The Hunt for October is heating up!

Just like the September heat, teams in the MLB make their final push to the postseason. The teams have their sights set on the ultimate goal; the World Series.

The league leading and American League East Champions Boston Red Sox, were the first team to clinch a playoff spot as the number one seed. This marks the Red Sox’s third consecutive year making it to the postseason.

Guys like J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, and Xander Bogaerts are key components of Boston’s success this year. They will lean heavily on their starting rotation that includes left handers Chris Sale and David Price and Right Hander Rick Porcello with Craig Kimbrel in the bullpen.

The Cleveland Indians became the second team to reach the postseason by clinching the American League Central. Cleveland is itching at getting back to the World Series.

The Indians have a great core of talent with Francisco Lindor, Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, Josh Donaldson, and Edwin Encarnacion. The pitching staff will be the workhorses of this postseason with the likes of two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, and hard throwing reliever Andrew Miller.

In the AL West the Astros, 2017 World Series Champions, hold a four and half game lead over the Oakland Athletics. Oakland holds the second wild card spot in the AL behind the New York Yankees.

The Astros look to repeat from last year after winning their first World Series. The Astros have a dominant pitching staff that could allow them to go far in the postseason.

The Astros lineup includes George Springer, Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel, and Alex Bregman. Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Dallas Keuchel, and Charlie Morton will need to be on their game for the Astros to go deep into the postseason.

The Oakland A’s will most likely play in the AL Wild Card game in the Bronx. Matt Chapman and the Athletics will have to take on Aaron Judge and the Yankees.

As for the National League, the Atlanta Braves have become the only team sop far to win their division. The NL West and NL Central still remain up for grabs.

The Atlanta Braves clinched the NL East this past week. The Braves are the surprise because of their rebuilding and their young talent.

The Bravos showcased their young prospects such as Ronald Acuna Jr., Mike Soroka,Austin Riley, and Dansby Swanson. These prospects were complemented by the core players of the Braves in Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman, and Ender Inciarte.

In the NL Central the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers keep battling it out for the first place finish. The Cubs have a one and half game lead over the Brewers.

The Brewers hold the top NL Wild Card spot and the Saint Louis Cardinals hold the second wild card spot. The Brewers outfield is at the helm of the team with All Stars Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich who has hit for the cycle twice this year.

The NL West is also undecided with the LA Dodgers only holding a one game lead over the Colorado Rockies. However, the Rockies are a half game behind for the second wild card spot.
