Hailing from Mission Viejo, Days of View is a fresh new rock band that must be heard. Pulling influences from classic rock from the 1960’s and 1970’s as well as from punk, the band has dialed in a fresh sound that feels both at touch to the past and relevant today.
The members of the band are Nathan Jerue on drums, Ian Winn on Bass, Blake Lumley on Keyboard, Alex Kunze on guitar, and Lucas Villenueva on guitar. While each of them play different instruments, they all participate in vocals to an extent. Songwriting, though, is a collaborative project between all of the members.
Currently, the band has a single titled Things Change as well as a debut EP titled Practice Room Sessions Their current discography heavily leans on their punk sound, with covers of both Basket Case by Green Day and Blitstreig Bop by the Ramonnes. Even then, the band isn’t afraid of contrast with keys and acoustic guitars supplementing the more aggressive angst of their chugging electric guitars and drums.
Vocally, the band goes for a far more melodic approach seen by bands of the typical Indie or alternative rock scenes as opposed to the more common hardcore sound.
Take a song like Things Change, their debut single, beginning with the underspoken guitar and piano intro that soon leans into the more stereotypical punk instrumentals accompanied by Lucas’ clean and crisp vocals. The song falls back into the pocket at the beginning when the bridge slows the song down until launching off into a fast-paced guitar shred for the outro.
Another interesting song from the band is their track Creep in the Night, their intro from their EP Practice Room Sessions. The verses are driven by Nathan’s surf rock inspired beats, a good change of pace to their more heavy chorus’.
The band has two covers on the tailend of their EP which gives insight into their influences, without fully giving away their sound. Basket Case feels pretty true to form, led by Ian on vocals and a heavy bass feel throughout.
The band has plans for an LP in the summer to finally condense all of their new ideas and material into a full-length record. The group recently performed live at Keno’s restaurant in Anaheim and are planning on playing in Laguna Beach on March 18th.
